| Published: | December 31, 2010 |
| Abstract: | This paper describes the US and International Standards activities ongoing within the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Intelligent Systems Division (ISD) with regards to accessibility for the disabled. There is a critical role of standards and conformity assessment activities in developing and maintaining environments, products, technologies, and systems that are accessible for persons with special needs. ISD has developed the Home Lift Position and Rehabilitation Chair, developed recommendations for improvements for the ISO Wheelchair standards, and provides input to the ISO Personal Care Robots and Industrial Robots standards based on both manufacturing and healthcare industry efforts. |
