Abstract

In support of the U.S. Department Energy s Energy Star program for solid state lighting, a series of standards for solid state lighting products have been developed in the USA. The standards published related to measurement and color include ANSI-NEMA-ANSLG C78.377-2008 Specifications for the Chromaticity of SSL Products, IES LM-79-08 Electrical and Photometric Measurements of SSL Products, IES LM-80 Measuring Lumen Maintenance of LED Light Sources, and Addendum a (6.8 Light Emitting Diodes) to ANSI/IESNA RP-16-05 Nomenclature and Definitions for Illuminating Engineering. These standards were published prior to the start of the DOE Energy Star program for SSL products, which began on September 30, 2008. Documents being developed include IES LM-xx Electrical and Photometric Measurements of High Power LEDs and a technical memorandum TM-21 Lumen Depreciation Lifetime Estimation Method for LED Light Sources. Technical contents of these standards published are summarized and discussed.
