| Title: | Modification of ASTM E 2187 for Measuring the Ignition Propensity of Conventional Cigarettes |
| Published: | December 18, 2009 |
| Abstract: | Less fire-prone cigarettes are becoming prevalent in the marketplace, and the conventional cigarette used to test upholstered furniture and mattresses for ignition resistance is no longer in production. To realize the improved fire safety afforded by less fire-prone cigarettes, it is important to have a continuing supply of standard cigarettes of conventional ignition propensity to support compliance testing and regulation of soft furnishings. A key first step in establishing such a supply is the development of a measurement method for quantifying the ignition propensity of a standard cigarette similar to that currently used for testing soft furnishings. This report describes such a measurement method. It also reports performance data for the conventional test cigarettes and other contemporary cigarettes. |
