| Title: | Optical Properties of Rod-like Metallic Nanostructures: Insight from Theory and Experiment |
| Published: | September 03, 2009 |
| Abstract: | In this work, we combined synthesis of metal Au and Au-Ag core-shell NRs, of high-purity and for a broad range of NR aspect ratios, with theoretical prediction, in order to gain an understanding of the optical response. Self-assembled NRs were also synthesized and characterized experimentally and theoretically, while a preliminary understanding of the growth of Au-Ag core-shell NR-like structures for varying dielectric environments and compositions was obtained. Controlled and precise synthesis, even for NRs with large aspect ratios, and for core-shell NRs, as well as NR pairs, enabled validation of the computational results, and development of structure-property relationships that will, in turn, assist in the routine experimental characterization of gold NRs and related core-shell structures in future work. |
