| Title: | ADHESION TEST METHOD FOR SPRAYED APPLIED FIRE RESISTANT MATERIALS |
| Published: | March 12, 2008 |
| Abstract: | Fire resistive materials are exceptional at providing an effective thermal barrier to structural steel from the heat flux from a fire, provided it is in close proximity to the steel during the fire event. The adhesion of the fire resistive materials is critical to their effective function, yet it has not received considerable research focus. Recently, there has been considerable interest in developing a fracture mechanics based test method to evaluate the SFRM/structural steel adhesion. NIST has led a public/private partnership focused on developing a peel based test method for SFRM development. The theoretical development of this test method and recent results for several SFRM/steel assemblies will be presented. |
