| Abstract: | This entry discusses briefly basic principles of extreme value (EV) estimation (see Extreme value analysis), the role of simulations for the development of relevant meteorological data sets, the interaction between the practical application of the meteorological data and the extreme value modeling process, and specific EV estimation issues pertaining wind, snow ice, and ocean waves. Modern treatments of EV theory are covered in detail by Castillo [5] and Beirlant et al. [4]. |
