Abstract

NASA=S interest in tracing the structural origins of the superior electronic performance of mercuric iodide crystals grown in microgravity has led to an unusually productive series of imaging experiments at Brookhaven. High resolution diffraction imaging on beamline X23A3 has provided keys to understanding the nature of the space crystals. This knowledge, in turn, has enabled growth of terrestrial crystals with progressively enhanced performance.
