| Title: | Towards Information Networks to Support Composable Manufacturing |
| Published: | October 15, 2008 |
| Abstract: | Rigid, supply-chain organizational structures are giving way to highly dynamic collaborative partnerships. These partnerships will develop rapidly by composing global manufacturing resources in response to open market opportunities; and, they will disband just as rapidly when those opportunities disappear. Cooperation, coordination, and distributed decision-making will be critical to the success of these dynamically composable systems. That success in turn will depend on the creation of a manufacturing information network that automates, as much as possible, the identification, formalization, encoding, and sharing of appropriate manufacturing- and business-related knowledge. In this paper we present some of the issues and requirements associated with the creation of such networks. |
