| Title: | Early Results From the NIST M48 CMM in the New AML Facility |

| Abstract: | The Advanced Measurement Laboratory at NIST in Gaithersburg has already provided real, measurable improvement in some dimensional metrology measurement processes at NIST, most notably in the performance of the NIST Moore M48 coordinate measuring machine1. The M48 was considered by many as the state-of-the-art coordinate measuring machine of its size in the world prior to the move into the AML. The goal was for this machine to maintain that reputation after the move into the new AML facility. This paper will describe the effort, considerations and requirements, testing, and outcomes from the move into the AML and show clear improvements to the quality of the data being generated by the machine in its new environment. |
