Abstract

This paper describes the technological basis and the current state of the art in the field of high speed grinding. The technological fundamentals of high speed grinding are first of all presented on the basis of the kinematics of the chip-forming process. The paper then goes on to consider energy aspects. The requirements which this innovative production technology imposes on machinery and tools are then presented. Finally, the state of the art in the field of high speed grinding in Europe, Japan and the USA is discussed by reference to new machine developments, examples of machining applications and test results.
