Abstract

We reveal the techniques behind a successful implementation of the Multiline TRL calibration for vector network analyzers (VNAs). For the first time, this paper describes the inner workings of NIST's Multical software, an evolved, automated implementation of the Multiline TRL calibration method. We describe the sequence of events in MultiCal for the Multiline TRL calibration and show how the program operates more likea state-machnine than just a solver of simultaneous equations in estimating the transmission line propagation constant and correction coefficients.
