NIST, Google launch semiconductor production initiative; Idaho National Lab unveils 5G security testing range

Federal officials have unveiled a pair of initiatives designed to propel U.S. technology advances, with NIST and Google partnering to produce chips for use in advanced technology research and, separately, Idaho National Lab opening a 5G test range focused on security.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology “has signed a cooperative research and development agreement with Google to develop and produce chips that researchers can use to develop new nanotechnology and semiconductor devices,” NIST announced Tuesday.
