1. A compact optically coherent fiber frequency comb
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 8/18/2015
Authors: Laura C Sinclair, Jean-Daniel Deschenes, Lindsay Irene Sonderhouse, William C Swann, Isaac Hansen Khader, Esther Baumann, Nathan Reynolds Newbury, Ian R Coddington
Abstract: We describe design and operation of a robust self-referenced, optically coherent frequency comb. The system robustness is derived from a combination of an optics package based on polarization-maintaining fiber, high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) detect ...

2. A method for comparing remote optical clocks over a free-space optical link
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 7/9/2012
Authors: William C Swann, Fabrizio Raphael Giorgetta, Ian R Coddington, Esther Baumann, Jean-Daniel Deschenes, Laura C Sinclair, Alexander M. Zolot, Nathan Reynolds Newbury
Abstract: We demonstrate a method to compare optical clocks approaching 10^u-17^ uncertainties through the exchange of optical pulses from phase-locked frequency combs. We discuss results over a 120 m air path and prospects for longer distances.

3. Dielectric characterization by microwave cavity perturbation corrected for non-uniform fields
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 7/23/2014
Authors: Nathan D Orloff, Jan Obrzut, Christian John Long, Thomas F. Lam, James C Booth, David R Novotny, James Alexander Liddle, Pavel Kabos
Abstract: The non-uniform fields that occur due to the slot in the cavity through which the sample is inserted and those due to the sample geometry itself decrease the accuracy of dielectric characterization by cavity perturbation at microwave frequencies. ...

4. Distributing UTC(NIST) to Industrial Time and Frequency Users
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 11/18/2009
Authors: Michael A Lombardi, Victor Shufang Zhang
Abstract: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) maintains one of the world s most accurate and stable time scales, UTC(NIST), as well as the NIST-F1 cesium fountain, the primary frequency standard for the United States. These standards are ...

5. Establishment of the SIM Time Scale
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 8/1/2009
Authors: J. Mauricio Lopez-Romero, Nelida Diaz-Munoz, Michael A Lombardi
Abstract: The SIM time and frequency metrology working group has developed a comparison network for the Americas, with the goals of improving metrology in the SIM region and to allow as many countries as possible to participate in the network. As of May 2008, ...

6. Free-space optical time-frequency transfer over 2 km
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 6/9/2013
Authors: William C Swann, Fabrizio Raphael Giorgetta, Laura C Sinclair, Esther Baumann, Ian R Coddington, Nathan Reynolds Newbury
Abstract: Precision free-space time-frequency transfer could advance fields where present microwave-based transfer is inadequate. We demonstrate an optical free-space link with femtosecond timing deviation and residual instability below 10^u−18^ at 1 ...

7. Frequency characterization of a swept and fixed-wavelength external-cavity quantum cascade laser by use of a frequency comb
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 5/21/2012
Authors: Kevin O. (Kevin) Knabe, Paul A Williams, Fabrizio Raphael Giorgetta, Chris Armacost, Michael Radunsky, Nathan Reynolds Newbury
Abstract: The instantaneous optical frequency of an external-cavity quantum cascade laser (QCL) is characterized by comparison to a near-infrared frequency comb. Fluctuations in the instantaneous optical frequency are analyzed to determine the frequency noise ...

8. How Accurate is a Radio Controlled Clock?
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 3/1/2010
Author: Michael A Lombardi
Abstract: This paper discusses the factors that determine the accuracy of radio controlled clocks. The topics covered including the accuracy of the time signal station, path delay, synchronization errors, and the time error that accumulates between synchroniz ...

9. Measurement and real-time cancellation of vibration-induced phase noise in a cavity-stabilized laser
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 8/30/2010
Authors: Michael J. (Michael) Thorpe, David R Leibrandt, Tara Michele Fortier, Till P Rosenband
Abstract: We demonstrate a method to measure and actively reduce the coupling of vibrations to the phase noise of a cavity-stabilized laser. This method uses the vibration noise of the laboratory environment rather than active drive to perturb the optical cav ...

10. NIST Time and Frequency Bulletin
Series: NIST Interagency/Internal Report (NISTIR)
Topic: Time and Frequency
Published: 1/5/2010
Author: Eyvon Petty
Abstract: The Time and Frequency Bulletin provides information on performance of time scales and a variety of broadcasts (and related information) to users of the NIST services)
