571. Decoherence in Josephson Qubits from Junction Resonances
Topic: Physics
Published: 8/13/2004
Authors: Raymond Wiley Simmonds, Kristine Lang, Dustin Alexander Hite, David P Pappas, John M. Martinis
Abstract: We present experimental data that demonstrates a large reduction in the coherence of a Josephson phase qubit from spurious microwave resonances. These resonances are believed to arise from resonant fluctuators in the tunnel junction that couple to th ...

572. Quantum information processing with trapped ions
Topic: Physics
Published: 7/25/2004
Authors: Murray D Barrett, Tobias Schaetz, J Chiaverini, Dietrich G Leibfried, Joseph Wright Britton, Wayne M Itano, John D. Jost, Emanuel H Knill, C. Langer, R Ozeri, David J Wineland
Abstract: We report experiments on the creation and manipulation ofmulti-particle entangled states of trapped atomic ions. The experiments reported here, quantum dense coding and quantum teleportation, constitute a significant step toward performing large-scal ...

573. Superconducting transition edge sensor using dilute AlMn alloys
Topic: Physics
Published: 7/6/2004
Authors: Steven Deiker, William Bertrand Doriese, Gene C Hilton, Kent D Irwin, William H Rippard, Joel Nathan Ullom, Leila R Vale, Steve T Ruggiero, Anthony Williams, B. Young
Abstract: We have fabricated a bolometer using a transition-edge sensor (TES) made of Al doped with Mn to suppress the superconducting critical temperature !Tc" of Al from #1 K to #100 mK. The resulting detector exhibits low-frequency noise consistent with t ...

574. Extremely low noise microwave signals synthesized from stable CW lasers with femtosecond laser frequency combs
Topic: Physics
Published: 5/17/2004
Authors: A Bartels, Scott A Diddams, Christopher W Oates, G Wilpers, Windell Oskay, James C Bergquist, Leo W. Hollberg
Abstract: A femtosecond laser frequency comb transfers the low phase and frequency noise of a cavity-stabilized CW laser to the microwave domain. Phase noise of -115 dBc/Hz at 1 Hz offset from the 1 GHz carrier is achieved.

575. Precision tests of femtosecond laser optical frequency synthesizers
Topic: Physics
Published: 5/17/2004
Authors: Long-Sheng Ma, Lennart Robertsson, Massimo Zucco, Zhiyi Bi, Robert Windeler, A Bartels, G Wilpers, Christopher W Oates, Leo W. Hollberg, Scott A Diddams
Abstract: We compare the accuracy of femtosecond laser optical frequency synthesizers that employ microstructured fibers with those that directly generate a broadband output. No limitation of either system is found at fractional frequency levels of 1x10^u-18^. ...

Authors: A Bartels, Christopher W Oates, Leo W. Hollberg, Scott A Diddams
http://www.nist.gov/manuscript-publication-search.cfm?pub_id=105130

577. Stabilization of femtosecond laser frequency combs with subhertz residual linewidths
Topic: Physics
Published: 5/15/2004
Authors: A Bartels, Christopher W Oates, Leo W. Hollberg, Scott A Diddams
http://www.nist.gov/manuscript-publication-search.cfm?pub_id=104845

578. Characterization and Reduction of Unexplained Noise in Superconducting Transition-Edge Sensors
Topic: Physics
Published: 5/7/2004
Authors: Joel Nathan Ullom, William Bertrand Doriese, Gene C Hilton, James A Beall, Steven Deiker, William Duncan, S. Lisa Ferreira, Kent D Irwin, Carl D Reintsema, Leila R Vale
Abstract: The noise in superconducting Transition-Edge Sensors (TESs) commonly exceeds simple theoretical predictions. The reason for this discrepancy is presently unexplained. We have measured the amplitude and frequency dependence of the noise in TES sensors ...

579. Mini-conference on laser-induced fluorescence in plasmas
Topic: Physics
Published: 4/23/2004
Authors: Fred Skiff, John J Bollinger

580. Dipole Moment of a Pb-O Vacancy Pair in PbTiO^d3^
Topic: Physics
Published: 4/1/2004
Authors: Eric J Cockayne, Benjamin P Burton
Abstract: The polarization of a nearest-neighbor (nn) Pb-O vacancy pair in PbTiO3 is calculated, using the modern theory of polarization, implemented in the density functional theory ultrasoft pseudopotential formalism. The dipole moment per divacancy is about ...
