2014 Cybersecurity Education Meeting Emphasizes Presidential Ready to Work Initiative

The National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) is hosting its fifth annual workshop November 5-6, 2014, in Columbia, Md. The theme is "Ready to Work: Equipping Our Cybersecurity Workers with the Skills to Compete in a 21st-Century Economy."

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is leading the NICE initiative working with the strengths and energy of more than 20 federal departments and agencies. NICE focuses on cybersecurity awareness, education and the workforce. The initiative is taking new actions to increase the number of individuals who are prepared for in-demand cybersecurity jobs, and accordingly, the workshop will have a strong focus on the White House's Ready to Work Program. In addition, for the first time, the Commerce Department is prioritizing supporting a skilled workforce to fill today's 21st century jobs and meet the needs of expanding industries, including cybersecurity.

Building on the theme, the NICE meeting offers tracks on Workforce and Skills Development, Education: Building the Cyber Generation, and Industry-Driven Initiatives.

Presentations include: Cyber Training and Development for Schools and Teachers; Job-Driven Initiatives Preparing for In-Demand Cybersecurity Jobs; Workforce Training Frameworks in Government and Industry; Advanced Technology for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education; Cybersecurity Education Techniques and Tools; and Benefits of Conducting Cybersecurity Competitions.

Lunchtime each day serves up "Birds of a Feather" sessions with opportunities to learn about and discuss topics, including improving methods to meet the cybersecurity job demand and bringing cyber realities into focus.

The 2014 NICE Workshop will be held at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center Hotel in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Columbia, Md. For more information on the meeting, the agenda and to register, see https://www.fbcinc.com/e/nice/default.aspx.
