SURF participants receive the following financial support:​​


Stipend =$6600 for an 11-week appointment or $600.00 per week (Note: Students are expected to work 40 hours per week /Monday though Friday.)

Housing Subsidy

Note: The 2022 SURF Program will be held virtually. Thus, participates will not receive funds to offset housing or travel as a component of their fellowship.

The SURF program provides a lodging subsidy (up to $3500) for students to arrange their own housing. The program plans to share a list of affordable housing options in an e-mail to accepted students.

The Boulder area is rich in cultural and recreational opportunities. SURF participants should check out the Boulder Creek Festival on Memorial Day weekend. 

Denver and Boulder offer theater, movies, restaurants, museums, shopping, and evening entertainment. Recreational activities, organized by the students, may include hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado Rockies' baseball games, trips to nearby sites such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Garden of the Gods, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, and local amusement venues such as Six Flags Elitch Gardens.
