Intercomparisons of the Measurement of Force Among National Metrology Institutes

Abstract
A description will be given of the ongoing Comite International des Poids et Measures (CIPM) key comparison programs in force. The participation of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in these programs to date will be discussed, including details of the preparation for the 4 MN force range comparison, for which NIST is the pilot institute. Various factors involved in force intercomparisons will be examined, such as transducer placement, load application timing, temperature, and adjustments of transducer responses for different nominal applied forces. The use of the derived transducer calibration equations as a basis for comparison over a range of force will be discussed.Conference Dates
