Christopher Ray is a Process Engineer in the Nanofabrication Research Group. He has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park and over 15 years of experience designing and fabricating microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), first at Bookham Technologies in Columbia, MD and then at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. At NASA, he developed silicon, metallization, etching, and other processing techniques for fabricating MEMS array devices to detect radiation ranging from infrared to gamma rays for ground-based and space-based telescopes, including instruments planned for launch on the James Webb Space Telescope in 2018. Chris is working with J. Alexander Liddle designing and fabricating liquid cells that will allow in situ observation of nanostructures in fluids using transmission electron microscopy.
