Laurean DeLauter (Fed)

Laurean A. DeLauter is an engineering technician in the National Fire Research Laboratory (NFRL) of the Fire Research Division (FRD) of the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Mr. DeLauter joined the Building and Fire Research Laboratory (BFRL) in 1990 as an engineering technician in the Large Fire Lab (LFL). Prior to working at NIST, Mr. DeLauter worked in the residential and commercial construction industry.

Mr. DeLauter is the senior technician at the LFL and plays a vital role in the daily operation of the lab. He provides technical support for a wide range of large fire experiments.  His duties at the LFL include installing measurement instrumentation, fabrication of experimental specimens and fixtures, and suppression of large fire experiments.  Mr. DeLauter performs the duties of job foreman for all large scale construction and demolition activities in the LFL.  He is the primary safety officer for large fire experimental test series in the LFL.

In December 1997, Mr. DeLauter received the NIST Safety Award for his role in the safe completion of over 500 individual fire experiments.

In December 2005, Mr. DeLauter received a DOC Bronze medal for his critical role in the performance of large fire experiments related to the World Trade Center Investigation.
