Measurements of mechanical stress and strain at the 10 nm to 100 nm length scale by nano-optical techniques such as tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; optical and mechanical properties of semiconductor nanowires and related low-dimensional nanostructures in the SiGe, AlGaInN, and ZnO materials systems; optical characterization of defects and impurities in semiconductor nanostructures; applications of optoelectronic materials in sustainable technologies for energy generation and efficiency, including solid-state lighting and photovoltaics
