Current research focuses on understanding the adsorption process of amine-based sorbents for carbon capture. This work utilizes experimental techniques of quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and polarization modulation-infrared reflection-adsorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) to examine the uptake and IR response of polyethylenimine thin films when exposed to carbon dioxide. The goal of this work is to better fundamentally understand the processes that contribute to carbon capture and help better design future sorbent materials and testing conditions.
