Abstract

This paper describes challenges encountered in the development of a tool to validate OASIS UBL-based (Universal Business Language) messages. The software tool is ontology-based, using first-order logic and parts of the Suggested Upper Merged Ontology (SUMO). The subject domain is international trade logistics. The paper reports on only the early phases of this work. It describes challenges in domain representation, and the use of semantic reasoning technology for message validation.
