Abstract

Compressed hydrogen is one of the most important utilities in fuel cell industry. For the specification of hydrogen fuel quality and for the design of humidification equipment, knowledge of the equilibrium water content of hydrogen as a function of temperature and pressure is desirable. A simple presentation in chart form is usually adequate for most fuel cell applications and such a chart has been prepared based on the information on the water vapor content of a hydrogen-water mixture. Absolute humidity of kilograms of water vapor per kilogram of dry hydrogen is plotted as a function of pressure up to 100 atmospheric pressures for saturation temperatures in the range of -70 °C to 90 °C. The chart can be used directly to determine the water vapor concentration of compressed hydrogen by measuring its dew/frost-point when pressure is reduced to a lower pressure, usually one atmospheric pressure.
