While wireless sensor network technology has advanced in recent years, potential users of these systems in buildings still have concerns with their use. This report summarizes results of a literature survey and interactions with building industry professionals that were designed to understand the barriers to adoption of wireless sensors in buildings when appropriate. It was found that users have concerns with cost, reliability, battery lifetime, interoperability, ease of use, and security. This work is meant to set the stage for the development of measurement techniques that will provide better metrics for how wireless sensor systems perform in actual building applications.
