Abstract

This product, Core Manufacturing Simulation Data (CMSD), addresses interoperability between simulation systems and other manufacturing applications. The CMSD information model is a standard representation for core manufacturing simulation data. It provides neutral structures for the efficient exchange of manufacturing data in a simulation environment. These neutral structures can be used to support the integration of simulation software with other manufacturing applications. The specification of the CMSD information model is presented using two different methods: (1) the information model defined using the Unified Modeling Language (UML); and (2) the information model defined using the XML Schema definition language. The information model defined using UML is presented in this document. The eXtensible Markup Language (XML), a specification supported by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), is a way to represent textual information in a document using an extensible set of markup tags that specify enhanced semantic content for the information in the document. The XML Schema definition language, which is also a specification supported by the W3C, provides a means to define a specific kind of document by defining a specific set of markup tags and the allowable organization of information using those tags. The XML Schema representation of the CMSD information model is not the subject of this document.
