Abstract

Cellulose nanocrystals are one group of nanoparticles that have high potential economic value but, also present many basic research and manufacturing challenges. These challenges are not only in development of the fundamental processes needed for the advanced manufacturing necessary for their large scale production, but also in the development of the needed measurement science for monitoring those processes. This metrology is critical for process control and to permit accurate property comparisons to be made. This summary presents some of the inital NIST work in the dimensional metrology and characterization of cellulose nanocrystals.
