Butch

AWARD CITATION

Dr. Butch's research is providing fundamental insights into unconventional magnetism and the interplay of magnetism and superconductivity. These are crucial to efforts to develop advanced superconducting materials that have the potential to enable and enhance many technologies that would dramatically improve the quality of life for all Americans. For example, new and better superconductors could revolutionize the storage and transmission of energy. To attain this goal, Butch is developing new neutron measurement technologies at the NIST Center for Neutron Research that will allow scientists to probe key aspects of superconductors in new ways. His remarkable productivity is exemplified by publications, invited lectures, and critical collaborations with groups throughout the United States.
