About Thermodynamics and Kinetics Group

The Thermodynamics and Kinetics group maintains substantial expertise in the theory and modeling of phase transitions in multicomponent (alloy) systems, diffusion, stress effects in thin films, solders and solderability, solidification, grain boundaries, and sintering.

Our complementary experimental work capabilities include DTA/DSC, x-ray powder diffraction, directional solidification, wetting balance, diffusion couples, melting, casting, swaging, rolling and heat treatment, hot isostatic pressing, and powder atomization. Collaboration with other groups in the division add methods of physical vapor and electrochemical deposition, SEM, TEM and scanning probes to our arsenal as well as a array of mechanical and electrical test equipment.
