Founded in 2011 in Kalispell, Montana, Thompson Precision is an AS9100-certified machining and fabrication shop with a highly experienced team of 25 employees and modern, high-tech capabilities known for their success in producing extremely high-quality parts.  Thompson has created a niche in the competitive machined parts industry through extremely high-quality, high-precision manufacturing and significant experience with exotic materials such as teflon, halar, aerospace alloys and additive manufactured metals.  They serve a wide variety of markets including aerospace, medical, petrochemical and semiconductor.

In 2013, Thompson Precision decided to pursue certification for their quality management system under the AS9100 standard in order to allow them to work more extensively with the aerospace industry.  The President, Steven Thompson, and General Manager, Greg Smith, are passionate about growing the company and wanted to go after new business opportunities.  Improving their overall quality system and making their quality inspection process as efficient as possible were things that they saw as essential elements of achieving the company’s goals.

MMEC worked with Thompson to develop, document and implement a Quality Management System which allowed them to gain certification within a year.  Since that time, they have maintained their certification, and in 2018, MMEC once again worked closely with the company to obtain certification renewal under the latest revision of the standard (AS9100D).  With MMEC’s assistance, Thompson Precision has moved from a small young machine shop to one of the most advanced shops of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.  They employ proprietary processes which enable them to machine 3D-printed parts to the extremely high tolerances required by the aerospace industry, and work on cutting-edge projects with top tier aerospace companies.  Their success has led to significant growth, and they are currently planning to expand into a new building.
