MMA-MEP Center at Itawamba Community College (ICC) Provides Lifesaving Training for WestRock

About

WestRock is currently the 2nd largest American packaging company. It is one of the world's largest paper and packaging companies with $15 billion in annual revenue and 42,000 employees in 30 countries. WestRock provides packaging solutions designed to give customers a winning edge in the global marketplace. They collaborate closely with their customers to deliver the best value on every type of paper board product, which are used for a variety of packaging and shipping containers, to specialty packages, which includes boxes and displays.

The Challenge

WestRock was searching for a vendor for CPR/First Aid/AED training in order to maintain compliance with their safety program requirements. WestRock was having difficulty finding a vendor that could meet their training needs and provide the training around their multiple shifts.

We were looking for a vendor that we could utilize to meet our need for CPR/AED/First Aid training. A new corrugator was being added to our facility and therefore we had a lot of shift changes. It had been difficult to locate a vendor to meet the training hours required that would facilitate our different shifts. We contacted the MMA-MEP Center at ICC. Not only were they able to meet our training needs at the times we needed, the cost was less than other vendors.

The trainers at the MMA-MEP Center at ICC are very knowledgeable, well prepared and were able to keep the classes interesting to our employees. We will be using the MMA-MEP Center at ICC for more training in the future.

— Rodney Barnes, EHS Manager

MEP's Role

MMA-MEP Center at Itawamba Community College was able to provide training that certified WestRock employees through the American Heart Association on a schedule that fit WestRock. Training was provided in the early morning hours when conventional vendors are not available.
