Training Workshop September 8-10

Capacity Building Workshop on Measurement of Gas Concentrations for Monitoring Air Quality and Climate Change

In follow-up to the Renewable Energy and Climate Science (RECS) Workshops held within the five sub-regions of SIM, the Organization of Americans States (OAS) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are excited to begin the next phase of the project.Based on the discussions at the Workshops, three areas have been identified as high priority topics for capacity building activities:gas measurements, energy efficiency and labeling.

NIST, OAS and CENAM are hosting a Capacity Building Workshop on Measurement of Gas Concentrations for Monitoring Air Quality and Climate Change to be held from 8 – 10 September 2015 in Querétaro, Mexico. The workshop will build upon many important measurement concerns and opportunities identified during the RECS workshops. GHG emissions and other pollutant emitted emissions from both mobile and stack sources were raised as major concerns for the region and improved capabilities were recognized as critical to meeting both national and international GHG reduction efforts. The participants' associated travel costs will be covered by dedicated project funds. See draft agenda at (include link to actual draft agenda)

The workshop organizers (OAS, NIST and CENAM) agreed to host 10 – 12 participants with a minimum of 1 – 2 years of gas related metrology experience. The draft agenda includes discussions on the importance of GHG measurements, reference material preparation related measurement techniques, and other GHG associated metrology topics
