COMPONENTS: Systems with Common Anion EVALUATOR: 125 (1) Potassium iso.pentanoate (potassium iso. valerate); (i.C5H902)K; [589-46-8] (2) Sodium iso.pentanoate (sodium iso.valerate) ; (i.C5H902)Na; [539-66-2] CRITICAL EVALUATION: Schiraldi, A., Dipartimento di Chimica Fisica, Universita' di Pavia (ITALY). This system was studied by Pochtakova (Ref. I), and by Dmitrevskaya and Sokolov (Ref. 2): according to both papers, continuous series of solid solutions ought to be formed. Both components, however, form liquid crystals (see Preface, Table 2). Consequently the fusion temperatures, Tfas (l)= 669 K (396 °C; Refs. I, 2), and Tfus (2)= 533 K (260 °C;Ref. 1) or 535 K (262 C; Ref. 2), are actually to be identified with the clearing temperatures, the corresponding values from Table 2 of the Preface being 679+2 K and 559+1 K, respectively. 7. Lightning protection of residential AC wiring

Lightning Protection of Residential AC Wiring Keith E. Crouch Lightning Technologies * Pittsfield, MA François D. Martzloff General Electric Company Schenectady NY f.martzloff@ieee.org Reprint, with permission, of declassified General Electric memo report MOR-78-095 Significance: Part 4 – Propagation and coupling of surges Part 8 – Coordination of cascaded SPDs Laboratory tests on the coupling of lightning current (flowing in the service drop grounded neutral conductor) onto the phase conductors, inducing overvoltages that were limited by candidate surge suppressors. While the injected lightning-simulation current was unidirectional, the induced voltages in the house wiring circuits had oscillatory components. This observation was used in support of the development of the “Ring Wave” concept that was adopted by IEEE 587 (now C62.41...

PQDH: A Quantum-Safe Replacement for Diffie-Hellman based on SIDH Vladimir Soukharev1 and Basil Hess2 1 InfoSec Global, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Vladimir.Soukharev@infosecglobal.com 2 InfoSec Global, Zurich, Switzerland Basil.Hess@infosecglobal.com Abstract. We present a post-quantum key agreement scheme that does not require distinguishing between the initiator and the responder. This scheme is based on elliptic curve isogenies and can be viewed as a variant of the well-known SIDH protocol. Then, we present an efficient countermeasure against a side-channel attack that applies to both static and ephemeral versions of SIDH and our scheme. Finally, we show how to obtain an isogeny-based password-authenticated key exchange protocol based on our scheme by applying a construction shown in [16]. Security and computational complexities summa...

SUPPRESSION MECHANISMS OF ALKALI METAL COMPOUNDS Bradley A. Williams and James W. Fleming Chemistry Division, Code 61x5 US Naval Research Lnhoratory Washington, DC 20375-5342, USA INTRODUCTION Alkali metal compounds, particularly those of sodium and potassium, are widely used as fire suppressants. Of particular note is that small NuHCOi particles have been found to be 2-4 times more effective by mass than Halon 1301 in extinguishing both eountertlow flames [ I ] and cup- burner flames [?]. Furthermore, studies in our laboratory have found that potassium bicarbonate is some 2.5 times more efficient by weight at suppression than sodium bicarhonatc. The primary limitation associated with the use of alkali metal compounds is dispersal. since all known compounds have very low volatility and must he delivered to the fire either as powders ...
