The aerosol can be produced by combustion of some solid fuels (aerosol- forming compounds) in special generator. Despite differences in these fuels, they contain as a rule inorganic oxidisers and salts (KNO3, KClO4, KCl) and organic or inorganic combustibles (Mg, epoxycombinations) [1]. A gaseous phase of the aerosol consists mainly from N2 and CO2, and a solid phase contains K2CO3, KHCO3, KCl [2]. In the scientific literature there are many experimental data concerning fire extinguishing density for aerosols of various chemical nature [1-4]. Usually this value varies in the range from 30 to 60 g/m3. Usually these objects have elevated level of fire danger due to presence of constantly energized equipment and high concentration of fire loading. Technical characteristics of the sea platform (project 4133, Kravtzovskoe oilfields, Baltic sea, Russia) are described. The following scenarios of fire are possible in the enclosures of the platform: 1 – a fire caused by combustion of gasoline and/or oil; 2 – an explosion of combustible mixture of gasoline and/or oil vapours with air followed by destruction of technological equipment and development of fire according to scenario 1. Several types of the generators were tested as potential source of ignition for combustible gas (or combustible vapour) – air mixture. They act on a flame both chemical inhibitor and diluent. It was obtained that mixture CF3H+CH3I has value of minimum fire extinguishing concentration (MFEC) which is less on 20 % (vol.) or on 16 % (mass.). The new method of determination of fire extinguishing concentrations ("cylinder" method) is proposed in this paper. Adequacy of the new method was confirmed by results of large-scale experiments. Experimental results show that values of MFEC for CF3H, C2F5H and CO2 are less 34, 16, and 30 % respectively, when MFEC was determined according to "cylinder" method.
