Bijunath R. Patla is a theoretical physicist whose areas of expertise include general relativity, gravitational lensing, cosmology, tests of fundamental physics using atomic clocks, and time transfer using global navigation satellite systems(GNSS).
The precision and accuracy of atomic clocks make them a powerful tool for testing the postulates of general relativity with tests of the universality of freefall, gravitational redshift, and local Lorentz invariance. Atomic clock comparisons are integral to testing the constancy of fundamental constants and precisely measuring the Earth's rotation and gravitational field for geodetic applications.
He also leads the program to schedule and perform calibrations of the GNSS time transfer links between national metrology institutes (NMIs) located within the Interamerican Metrology System (SIM) and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM).
