NIST Extends Deadline for TIP Proposals

GAITHERSBURG, MD — The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced today that it is extending the deadline for submitting proposals to its Technology Innovation Program (TIP) competition until 3 p.m. EDT, Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. The extended proposal period will allow NIST to accommodate anyone who was unable to submit proposals electronically on the original deadline due to technical difficulties.

The TIP competition originally announced on July 9, 2008, solicited proposals for cost-shared R&D support for high-risk research projects to develop innovative technologies for inspecting, monitoring and evaluating critical components of the nation's roadways, bridges, and drinking and wastewater systems. (See "R&D Proposals Sought for New Sensing Technologies to Monitor Infrastructure," July 9, 2008.)

NIST will accept only paper submissions during the extended time period, but proposals that were submitted electronically between 3 p.m. EDT on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008—the original deadline—and 11:59 p.m. EDT that same day also will be deemed timely and given full consideration. Anyone who attempted to submit electronic proposals but was unsuccessful is encouraged to resubmit their proposal by paper. Paper submissions must be received by NIST by 3 p.m. EDT, Monday, Sept. 15, 2008. TIP requires one original and 15 copies of any proposal submitted on paper.

Paper proposals must be sent to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 100 Bureau Drive, Stop 4701, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-4701, and may be delivered by any mode, including hand-delivery, courier and express mailing. Proposals submitted via facsimile will not be accepted.
