The Phase Equilibria Diagrams CD-ROM Database, Version 3.4 (2012)

The Phase Equilibria Diagrams Database contains commentaries and 24,800 diagrams for non-organic systems, including those published in all 21 hard-copy volumes produced as part of the ACerS-NIST Phase Equilibria Diagrams Program: hard-copy Volumes I through XIV ("blue books"); Annuals 91, 92, 93; High Tc Superconductors I & II; Zirconium & Zirconia Systems; and Electronic Ceramics I. Materials covered include oxides as well as non-oxide systems such as chalcogenides and pnictides, phosphates, salt systems, and mixed systems of these classes.

Phase Equilibria Diagrams, (Standard Reference Database 31), published from 1964 to 1992 as the well-known Phase Diagrams for Ceramists "blue books", is the result of a long-standing collaboration between NIST and The American Ceramic Society to develop and maintain a state-of-the-art database of critically evaluated phase equilibria data for industrial and academic customers. The diagrams serve as maps of the equilibrium chemical and structural behaviors exhibited by materials and provide critical starting information for the rational design of materials processing schemes, for quality assurance efforts, and for optimization of the physical and chemical properties of advanced materials.

The present CDROM v.3.4 update adds 892 new entries (Figs. 13,344-14,235, electronic Volume 17) with 1,400 new diagrams, bringing the total number of diagrams to 24,800. This comprehensive, searchable CDROM includes all the information printed in the 21 hard-copy volumes as well as "virtual" Volumes 15, 16, and special-Volume P (phosphorus-containing). The new content includes experimental and calculated data for an unprecedented range of non-organic material-types including oxides and mixed systems with oxides, chalcogenides (sulfides, selenides, tellurides), pnictides (N, P, As, Sb, Bi), actinides (U, Pu, Th) and actinide-surrogates (Ce), oxycation systems (e.g. molybdates, vanadates), semiconductors (Si, Ge, Sn), group 3 systems (B, Al, Ga, In, Tl), and salts including mixed systems with salts. The data are pertinent to a wide variety of applications including optics, non-linear optics, luminophores, advanced composites, nuclear fission/fusion, radioactive waste, catalysis, batteries, alloy-property tailoring, coatings (thermal/electrical/structural/corrosion), thermoelectrics, ionizing radiation detectors, dyes, corrosion inhibitors, heat insulators, chemical processing, metallurgical processing, cement, glass-ceramic technology, energy storage (thermoaccumulators), infrared and laser technologies, memory cells, gas sensors, electrical and magnetic switches, varistors, thermistors, electrical conductors, ionic conductors, solid-oxide fuel cells, separation membranes, semiconductor technology, microelectronics, optically-transparent conducting oxides, photoelectrics, ferroelectrics, piezoelectrics (including lead-free), gate dielectrics, magnetoelectrics, and holographic information storage. The new figures are labeled as Volume 17 in this release.

Publication of the hard-copy "blue books" was discontinued after Volume 14. All content thereafter is available only in electronic form and will not be published in book form. However, all post-Volume-14 figures (and newly revised older figures) are available as .pdf files which are identical in quality to those in the printed books (see View/Print PDF button at the bottom of the user interface in the figure below) and which can be printed by the user.

The free demonstration version contains the same functionality as the full version, but with limited content consisting of the 202 figures published in the Phase Diagrams for Ceramists: Annual '92 and 11 figures from the latest content-update, "Volume 15". In addition, this CD-ROM serves as a searchable, comprehensive chemical index for the entire database.
