Malcolm Baldrige
National Quality Award Ceremony
April 19, 2006
Remarks by Kirby A. Lehman
Superintendent
Jenks Public Schools
Vice-President Cheney,
Secretary Gutierrez, members of the Baldrige family, fellow recipients
and other distinguished guests. It is a privilege and an honor to accept
this award on behalf of the 1200 Jenks Public School District staff members,
whose tireless pursuit of performance excellence, vision for the future,
and focus on our customers have made our district's receipt of this award
a reality.
Allow me to introduce
six people who have made a difference in Jenks. First, let me thank the
Jenks School Board, composed of five individuals who together have given
more than 35 years of service to the Jenks motto: A Tradition of Excellence
with a Vision for Tomorrow. Mike Baab, Joe Hidy, Anne McCoy, Mark Sharp,
and Gary Stanislawski---all are focused on helping the Jenks District
continuously improve.
Last, my partner
on the stage today, Dr. Diane Bosworth, served as the catalyst for the
Quality movement in Jenks, through her energy, tenacity, expertise, and
courage.
It is also our privilege
to be associated with the other outstanding institutions that are being
recognized as Baldrige recipients, for we fully understand how long and
hard you have worked to realize the achievements that have brought you
here today.
As a Malcolm Baldrige
National Quality Award recipient this year, we recognize the awesome honor
and myriad responsibilities that accompany this award. Jenks staff members
look forward to providing contributions on many fronts, and we will be
specifically focused on sharing our Quality practices with other school
districts, as we all strive to help lead our country toward a world class
education system.
Thank you for this
wonderful honor.
