The Art and Science of the Motorcycle

Charles M. Falco
Chair of Condensed Matter Physics
Univ. of Arizona

Dr. Falco has a life-long interest in motorcycles and owns what is perhaps the world's largest private collection of English-language motorcycle books. Because of his detailed knowledge of the subject, the New York Guggenheim Museum engaged him as curatorial advisor for the 1998 exhibition "The Art of the Motorcycle." Critically acclaimed, it set all-time attendance records. The talk will examine the relevant technological, cultural, sociological, aesthetic, and gender-related factors that have led to standard production motorcycles over the past 100 years.
