Why XAFS is Difficult on BaTiO3

The proximity of the Ba LIII edge to the Ti K edge severely limits the range over which the Ti K edge EXAFS can be analyzed. This energy difference corresponds to about 8.3Å-1 of photoelectron wave-number.

EXAFS is essentially a signal processing problem with a bandwidth set, in part, by the extent of the available data in photoelectron wave-number.

The information content in a band this narrow is insufficient for the kind of quantitative analysis necessary to resolve the structures of titanium perovskites.[4]
