Quantum Computation with Neutral Atoms in an Optical Lattice

Steven Peil, Brian King and James Porto

Processing information with quantum mechanical systems is of great interest from both a technological and a scientific point of view.  We are building an apparatus to explore topics in quantum information processing using single atoms trapped in the wells of an optical lattice.  Our system will cool, trap and Bose-condense rubidium atoms in order to intialize the quantum register.  Gate implementations, addressing individual qubits, and apparatus design will be discussed.
