Searching for DNA Biomarkers

Red and green fluorescent dots identify 2 copies of chromosome 5 among a full complement of 46 human chromosomes. Chromosomes tagged with red and green fluorescent probes on chromosome 5. By chemically treating chromosomes extracted from a patient's blood sample and looking for breaks in chromosome 5, researchers hope to be able to predict a person's susceptibility to lung cancer.
