Communications The wireless revolution.

Mobile phones are everywhere. Their rapid rise from novelty to necessity has depended in part on support from NIST. NIST provides the wireless communications industry with reference standards, materials data, calibrations, and co-funding for the development of cutting-edge technologies.

Engineers from more than 100 companies are working with NIST to speed development of standards for broadband wireless connections for homes and businesses. NIST also develops methods for measuring electromagnetic radiation emitted by mobile phones and other consumer electronics.
