To help manufacturers adhere to U.S. food labeling laws, NIST produces SRMs such as Baby Food Composite, with certified values for cholesterol, minerals, vitamins, and other food components.

They say you are what you eat, so it pays to know what's in your food.

Food processing companies use NIST Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) to accurately adjust the instruments used for measuring the concentration of components like proteins, carbohydrates, fat, and vitamins. SRMs also help manufacturers and regulators measure toxins such as PCBs or mercury to ensure the food supply is safe.
