Technology Services is NIST's primary point of contact and service-delivery organization. It is the institute's main interface to diverse customer groups that rely on and leverage NIST services in a wide array of science, technology, and trade activities. It also provides support for the NIST policy on measurement traceability. Technology Services
supports the NIST Laboratories in developing and delivering calibrations,
Standard Reference Materials®, and Standard Reference Data; in developing
formal partnerships with collaborators from industry and elsewhere; in
managing intellectual property; and by providing a variety of specialized
information services. Technology Services also promotes uniformity in
U.S. weights-and-measures laws, regulations, and standards, and it coordinates
efforts to increase governmental use of private-sector voluntary standards.
Providing technical assistance to voluntary standards bodies and coordinating
laboratory accreditation and other conformity assessment activities (often
in support of trade agreements) also are functions of Technology Services.
Efforts also are directed at lowering standards-related market barriers
that can impede the export of U.S. goods and services. In addition, Technology
Services manages NIST's Small Business Innovation Research Program, and
it promotes use of the metric system in the United States. Contact: Belinda Collins, Director Office of Technology
