The National Storage Industry Consortium -- with about 50 industry members, including Hewlett Packard, Eastman Kodak Co., and IBM -- won an Advanced Technology Program award to develop multilayer, magnetic read heads that may greatly increase the storage capacity of computer disks. NIST research chemist Bill Egelhoff has helped the consortium better understand how factors such as surface topography affect the materials' performance. |
