The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award was established by Congress in 1987 to promote quality awareness, to recognize quality achievements of U.S. companies, and to publicize successful quality strategies. In conjunction with the private sector, NIST developed and manages the award program. Three awards my be given annually in each of five categories: manufacturing, service, small business, education, and health care.
