Coordinate Measuring Machine Performance
CMM artifact ©Robert Rathe Photography
Mechanical engineer Daniel Sawyer positions a coordinate measuring machine to begin inspection of an experimental artifact. The CMM touches at least four points on each sphere to precisely measure the distance between them. The goal of this research is to develop rigid artifacts that industry can use to reliably characterize their own CMM's performance.
