Multi-Agency Coordination Committee for Combustion Research (MACCCR)
Summit on Fuels

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
Building 101, Green Auditorium
100 Bureau Drive
Gaithersburg, MD 20899

September 8-10, 2008
Sponsors:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Multi Agency Coordination Committee for Combustion Research.
Audience:
Scientific investigators.
Format:
Conference.
Purpose:
This conference is designed to enable the future utilization of alternative fuels through research in fuel formulation, simulation, and testing methodologies. It is a direct response to concerns over the future cost, availability, and environmental impact of conventional hydrocarbon fuels. There is at present a large infra-structure designed to qualify refinery products for end use. The design of energy conversion systems for power generation and transportation depends on this qualification procedure. Current test methods for product qualification have evolved beginning with the transition from a coal to a petroleum-based economy and in recent years have focused on the emission propensities of fuels. It is expected that modern research techniques will determine fuel properties more accurately and comprehensively, thus accelerating and transforming the qualification procedures. Particular attention will be paid to the properties of fuel mixtures through studies of surrogates and mixtures of alternative (bio and coal based) and petroleum based fuels.
Topics:
  1. Fuel properties: mixtures
Alternative fuels, bio, coal based, fuels
    Surrogate Mixtures
    Relation to petroleum fuels
  2. Combustion Simulations physical and chemical
  3. Databases; physical and chemical properties
  4. Modern Test Methods
