Purpose:
|
This
conference is designed to enable the future utilization of alternative
fuels through research in fuel formulation, simulation, and testing
methodologies. It is a direct response to concerns over the future
cost, availability, and environmental impact of conventional hydrocarbon
fuels. There is at present a large infra-structure designed to qualify
refinery products for end use. The design of energy conversion systems
for power generation and transportation depends on this qualification
procedure. Current test methods for product qualification have evolved
beginning with the transition from a coal to a petroleum-based economy
and in recent years have focused on the emission propensities of
fuels. It is expected that modern research techniques will determine
fuel properties more accurately and comprehensively, thus accelerating
and transforming the qualification procedures. Particular attention
will be paid to the properties of fuel mixtures through studies
of surrogates and mixtures of alternative (bio and coal based) and
petroleum based fuels. |
