World
Metrology Day is a celebration of NIST's core foundation and purpose!
World Metrology Day was formally established by the International
Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) to commemorate the signing
of the Metre Convention in 1875.
This global
theme for this year, "Metrology Measurement in Sport,"
recognizes the importance of the base SI units and the need for
SI traceable measurements of length, time, mass and chemical composition
with the comparison of results from sporting events over both
space and time.
This year's
celebration of World Metrology Day Symposium at NIST will be focused
on "Metrology for the Olympic Games," with a special
emphasis on "metrology in the testing for performance enhancing
drugs."
