NIST
to Hold Press Briefing in Providence on Nightclub Fire Investigation

| What: | The U.S.
Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST) will brief the media on the findings and recommendations
in the draft report from the agency’s building and fire
safety investigation of the Feb. 20, 2003, fire and building collapse
at The Station nightclub in W. Warwick, R.I.
NIST also will announce that it is seeking public comment on the draft report until April 4, 2005. The
overall goal of this investigation, and all NIST investigations
conducted under the National Construction Safety Team (NCST)
Act, is to recommend improvements in the way people design,
construct, maintain and use buildings to increase both occupant
safety and structural integrity. |
